Flooring Solutions Ltd was appointed to carry out a comprehensive commercial safety flooring installation at Buile Hill Academy, covering three staircases, three corridors, and the main reception area — a total of approximately 300.00 m².

Products & Materials Used
Polyflor Polysafe Vogue Ultra — Winter Dusk (4730)
The primary safety floor covering specified for this project was Polyflor Polysafe Vogue Ultra in the Winter Dusk colourway (reference 4730), installed across the staircases, corridors, and reception area. Polysafe Vogue Ultra is one of Polyflor’s most premium safety flooring products, combining the high-end aesthetic of a contemporary design-led floor covering with the rigorous, independently verified slip-resistance performance demanded in busy public and education environments. It achieves the Low Slip Potential classification across its full lifetime, ensuring the academy’s floors remain safe for pupils, staff, and visitors long after installation.
The Winter Dusk colourway delivers a sophisticated, cool-toned finish that elevates the appearance of circulation spaces and the main reception, creating an environment that feels modern, professional, and welcoming. Heckmondwike Dreadnought — Anthracite
Heckmondwike Dreadnought carpet tile in Anthracite was specified to complement the Polyflor Polysafe Vogue Ultra installation at key transition and threshold areas throughout the project. Heckmondwike Dreadnought is one of the most robustly constructed contract carpet tiles available in the UK market, engineered specifically for the heaviest commercial footfall environments. Its exceptionally dense, hard-wearing pile construction makes it a trusted choice for education and public sector projects where longevity and performance under sustained heavy use are non-negotiable.
The Anthracite colourway provides a strong, neutral contrast to the Winter Dusk safety flooring, creating a clearly defined visual distinction between zones while maintaining a cohesive, considered aesthetic throughout the building. Ardex Screeds
Thorough substrate preparation was carried out prior to installation across all areas using Ardex screeds. Ardex is widely regarded as the industry standard for commercial substrate preparation, and their screeding products were used throughout to address surface irregularities and achieve the consistently flat, smooth, and structurally sound substrate required for a high-performance safety flooring installation. Proper substrate preparation is critical in a project of this scale and complexity — without it, even the finest floor coverings cannot perform to their full potential or deliver the longevity expected in a demanding school environment.
Uzin KE2000S & F. Ball F60 Adhesives
Two specialist adhesives were used across this project to suit the different substrate and installation conditions encountered on site. Uzin KE2000S is a high-performance, pressure-sensitive acrylic adhesive designed for bonding safety vinyl floor coverings to a wide range of substrates, providing excellent green grab and a reliable long-term bond. F. Ball F60 is a robust, solvent-free acrylic adhesive from one of the UK’s most trusted flooring adhesive manufacturers, well suited to the sustained demands of high-traffic commercial environments. The selection and correct application of both adhesives ensured a secure, lasting bond across the full 300.00 m² installation area.
Gradus XT Ramp Back Nosings
All staircase treads were completed with Gradus XT Ramp Back stair nosings, providing a safe, durable, and regulation-compliant edge detail to every step across all three staircases. Gradus is the UK’s leading manufacturer of stair nosing and edge protection systems, and the XT Ramp Back profile is one of their most widely specified products in education and public sector environments. The ramp-back design eliminates abrupt step edges, reducing the risk of trips and falls while delivering a neat, professional finish that complements the Polyflor Polysafe Vogue Ultra floor covering throughout. The nosings also assist in meeting the relevant UK building regulations and slip-resistance standards applicable to educational buildings.
