Substrate Preparation
Given the wet environment, thorough and appropriate substrate preparation was essential before any floor covering could be installed. The preparation programme utilised a combination of Ardex products selected specifically for their performance in moisture-rich conditions. Ardex CL Plus was applied as a cleaning and priming treatment to ensure the substrate surface was properly conditioned and free from contamination. Ardex A46 moisture tolerant rapid setting compound was then used to address any substrate irregularities — its moisture tolerant formulation making it particularly well suited to shower and wet room environments where residual moisture in the substrate is a common concern. The preparation works were completed with the application of Ardex Feather Finish, providing a fine, smooth surface profile ready to receive the adhesive and floor covering.

The specified floor covering was Polyflor Polysafe Quattro in Slate Haze 5773, a premium heavy-duty safety vinyl designed specifically for wet and barefoot environments. Polysafe Quattro is independently tested and verified to maintain effective slip resistance when wet, making it one of the most trusted safety flooring solutions available for changing rooms, shower areas and pool surrounds. Its robust construction ensures it can withstand the rigours of a commercial wet environment, including regular wet cleaning and high footfall, without compromising on safety performance or appearance.
The Slate Haze 5773 colourway provides a contemporary, neutral aesthetic that complements the refurbished changing room environment — practical, professional and visually cohesive. The flooring was installed using Mapei G19 Epoxy Adhesive, a two-component epoxy system that delivers an exceptionally strong and waterproof bond, ideally suited to the wet conditions and the specific demands of safety vinyl installation in shower areas.
Finishing & Accessories
The installation was completed with Gradus PVC accessories, providing neat, hygienic and durable edge and detail finishing throughout the changing room and shower areas. PVC accessories are the preferred choice in wet environments due to their inherent resistance to moisture and corrosion, ensuring the finished installation remains clean, safe and well-presented over the long term.
